Abstract

Cryptocurrency has become one of the most prominent financial technology innovations in the digital economy. Its adoption continues to increase globally due to the growing need for decentralized financial systems, digital investment instruments, and alternative payment technologies. However, cryptocurrency adoption is determined not only by the availability of the technology, but also by user perception, trust, perceived risk, technological awareness, and regulatory support. This study aims to analyze the factors influencing cryptocurrency adoption using the Technology Acceptance Model (TAM) approach. This model focused on perceived usefulness, perceived ease of use, trust, perceived risk, technological awareness, and behavioral intention. This study uses a quantitative explanatory approach through survey-based data collection from potential and actual cryptocurrency users. The proposed analysis method is Structural Equation Modeling–Partial Least Squares (SEM-PLS) to examine the relationships between variables. This study argues that perceived usefulness and perceived ease of use are the main predictors of behavioural intention, while trust and perceived risk are important external factors in shaping user acceptance. The findings of this study are expected to provide theoretical contributions to the development of TAM in the study of financial technology adoption as well as practical contributions for regulators, crypto platforms, and financial educators in increasing the safe and responsible adoption of cryptocurrency.
